Ingredients:
- 1 chicken
- Salt
- Sweet paprika
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Sweet soy sauce
Method:
Cooking a few chicken on a spit roaster is an easy way to cook for just a few people or for a decent size gathering. While you can cook a roast chicken in your normal kitchen oven, cooking a chicken on the spit will give you a delicious smoky flavour and make you the charcoal chicken king or queen. Give the chicken a generous coating of sweet soy sauce by drizzling it on top and basting as you go.
Attaching it to the spit:
- You’ll need a skewer and two chicken prongs for each chicken.
- Put the skewer through the chicken.
- Put one chicken prong through each side of the flesh and tighten.
- To secure the legs so they stay attached to the body, use some butcher’s string. Alternatively, insert them into the chicken prong.
Cooking time:
Your cooking time will be affected by a variety of factors, allow around 2-2.5 hours to be safe. You may always move the charcoal to the side and bring the chicken to the top of the spit roaster if it’s ready a little earlier to keep it warm without really continuing to cook. When the internal temperature reaches 75 degrees using a cooking thermometer, the food is cooked.
