How to Grill a Steak on Auspit

In this Blog, you will learn how to grill a steak on Auspit. We decided to use a tomahawk in this meal because let’s face it, they look amazing and taste bloody delicious! however, grill any steak you choose!

Prepare your meat:

Begin by trimming your meat, eliminating any excess fat or skin that may not render nicely when cooked.

Next Season the meat with your preferred BBQ rub; we chose Flaming Coals Bovine Espresso, but feel free to use your favourite!

Prepare your fire:

We’re using the Auspit Fire Pit for this cook, which is designed to be portable and ideal for backyard cooks. What we like about the design is that it is entirely boltless and flat-packable. It means there will be no missing components when you arrive in the wild outdoors!

We chose ironbark splits as our fuel. To start the fire, construct a tent-like pyramid of kindling in the centre of the pit and ignite it with firelighters. We added the divides once the flames gained momentum. To get this going, we added more oxygen to the fire with our Flaming Coals Charcoal Starter wand (though this isn’t required).

Cooking your steak:

Attach your Auspit Stainless Steel folding grill to the Auspit pole and adjust the height to your liking.

Once your steak has achieved an internal temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit, lay it directly in the coals to char the bark. After the steak reaches an internal temperature of 135°F, take it from the oven and let it aside for 10 minutes before cutting.

Steak is placed directly in charcoal.

Pro tip – If you don’t have a temperature probe, purchase one; they’re simple to use and the only way to ensure a perfect meal every time.

Cut, serve and enjoy that delicious medium-rare tomahawk …
